The University of Mary Percussion Studio has a long history of success. Located in Bismarck, ND, the close knit studio focuses on individual attention and mentorship while preparing performers and educators for diverse careers in music. The U-Mary Percussion Program offers a total percussion approach with serious study in classical, contemporary, jazz, improvised, and ethnic music. U-Mary Percussion is one of the most active studios in the area. Student gain real world experience by performing in University and professional ensembles both on and off campus. Auditions and Scholarships
The University of Mary offers tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships every year. Scholarships are available for percussion majors and music participants. Incoming students interested in auditioning for the music program and a scholarship should prepare a snare drum, mallet, and timpani solo. Below are suggestions of repertoire:
Snare Drum: A solo or etude from Cirone's Portraits in Rhythm, Delecluse's Douze Etudes, Pratt's 14 Modern Contest Solos, or equivalent.
Mallets: A two or four mallet solo or etude by Bach, Zivkovic, Peters, Gomez, McMillan, or equivalent.
Timpani: A solo or etude from Goodman, Peters, Vic Firth, Lepak, Carroll, Whaley, or equivalent.
Drumset (optional): Demonstrate various styles including swing, Latin, funk, etc.
